Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in STEM

TechWomen Rwanda recently visited New Life Leadership Academy high school in Bugesera with one clear mission: to inspire, encourage, and empower students—especially young girls—to see themselves as future leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The school outreach brought learning beyond textbooks into a hands-on, engaging experience. Students were introduced to emerging technologies through interactive sessions using VR goggles, Arduino kits, 3Doodlers, and cybersecurity demonstrations. For many, it was their first time exploring how technology works in real life—and how it can be used to solve real-world problems.

Beyond the tools and activities, the heart of the visit was mentorship. Members of TechWomen Rwanda shared their personal journeys in STEM, openly discussing challenges, opportunities, and the importance of confidence and curiosity. Through open conversations and group discussions, students were encouraged to ask questions, dream boldly, and believe that STEM careers are within their reach—regardless of background or gender.

The session highlighted how STEM skills open doors to high-demand careers in coding, engineering, innovation, and problem-solving, while also playing a critical role in shaping Rwanda’s digital transformation and future economy. Students learned about the mentorship programs, leadership development opportunities, scholarships, internships, and career support that TechWomen Rwanda offers to support women and girls in tech.

By the end of the visit, over 100 students had not only gained new technical exposure but also renewed confidence and motivation. Smiles, curiosity, and excitement filled the room as students expressed interest in joining STEM clubs, participating in future workshops, and staying connected with TechWomen Rwanda.

This school visit was more than an outreach activity—it was a spark. A reminder that when young people are exposed to role models, practical skills, and supportive communities, they begin to see new possibilities for themselves.

At TechWomen Rwanda, empowering the next generation of women in STEM is not just a vision—it’s a commitment, one school at a time.
